Within seconds, he was dialing my mom’s number with trembling fingers. “Please…” I heard him whisper. “Don’t do this. I’ll fix everything. Just—please—don’t send this anywhere else.” For the first time in thirty years, he was afraid. When I saw what was inside, I realized my mom was a genius—and that my father would pay for what he did, and not with money.

That’s what a lot of fans are saying after last night’s event at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The show streamed live on Prime Video. In fairness to the “That Don’t Impress Me Much” singer, it was Twain’s first time hosting the ACM Awards. There were also audio issues all evening, which threatened to derail Lee Ann Womack’s comeback bid during her duet with Parker McCollum. But Womack wasn’t the only one who was struggling. Twain’s opening monologue fell flat, opting to give readers a history of the Academy of Country Music rather than tell jokes and warm up the audience. Then, Twain mispronounced Ella Langley’s first name (“Ella,” not “Elle”) before her performance last night. However, we’re certain that the “Choosin’ Texas” singer forgot all about it after she won her seventh award last night. Fans didn’t hold back when critiquing Twain’s first go-round as host. “Seriously, the worst host yall have ever had. Do better. Shania was horrid,” wrote one user. Another added, “Omg. Shania is a horrible! The ACMs should have no host at all. Is this the best they could find?” One fan insisted, “Please make it stop.
