Indeed, \u201cHell Of A Way To Go\u201d singer Riley Green made his acting debut on Marshals, yet another entry into the ever-expanding Yellowstone universe. His character, Garrett, seemed almost certain to stick around for a bit. He\u2019s good pals with main characters Kayce (Luke Grimes) and Cal (Logan Marshall-Green). He also had a romance with Andrea (Ash Santos). Hell, he\u2019s practically the glue that holds the show together!<\/p>\n
However, as is the way of shows shepherded by Taylor Sheridan, the death of main characters is inevitable. The 37-year-old\u2019s character\u2019s storyline ended when he died in a barn fire. It happens.<\/p>\n
That said, at least one of Green\u2019s costars knew the score in advance.<\/p>\n

\n\u201c[Green] joked, he was like, \u2018Damn, I was really hoping I\u2019d stick around longer,\u2019 and we were like, \u2018With your schedule? You\u2019re always at some concert,\u2019 \u201d Ash Santos told PEOPLE.<\/p>\n
However, plenty of tears were shed on Green\u2019s last day on the set.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur hair-and-makeup team, especially, those women loved him,\u201d Santos recalled. \u201cWe had people on our crew who were so upset with [showrunner] Spencer [Hudnut] for weeks when they got that episode.\u201d<\/p>\n
Fans Had Mixed Reactions to Riley Green on \u2018Marshals\u2019
\nMeanwhile, fans had mixed reactions to Green\u2019s turn on Marshals. A Reddit thread declaring the singer the worst actor on the series had more than a few defenders.<\/p>\n
Many seemed to think it was a mistep to cast a country artist rather than an actor in the role. \u201cThat guy isn\u2019t an actor. He\u2019s a singer,\u2019 one top comment read.<\/p>\n
\u201cWalker was not exactly badly acted, it just feel like he was badly scripted, Ryan did a good job with the hand he was dealt,\u201d one TV fan pushed back. \u201cI was just glad to see Ryan catch some fame,\u201d another fan added. \u201cI\u2019ve been listening to his music since 2013, when I first heard some of his music from a guy on a deer lease.\u201d<\/p>\n
Of course, the Yellowstone franchise had had plenty of success casting country singers in lead roles in the past. The insanely popular prequel series 1883 was famously headlined by country veterans (and real-life married couple) Tim McGraw and Faith Hill.<\/p>\n
